Analytica's Security Research Fellow Andreja Bogdanovski participated at the conference "Strengthening Intelligence Oversight in the Western Balkans" co-hosted by the Netherlands' Institute of International Relations-Clingendael, The Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces and the Dutch Review Committee on the Intelligence and Security Services. Mr. Bogdanovski addressed the question on Intelligence governance in transition states or more specifically why the strengthening of intelligence governance is important for the broader processes of security sector reform in the Western Balkans. He also reflected on the principal challenges to the intelligence governance in Macedonia. The conference is organized as part of a wider project aimed at strengthening parliamentary and independent expert oversight of security and intelligence services in the Western Balkans. As part of the project Mr. Bogdanovski is an author of a study called "Strengthening the oversight of intelligence and security services in the Western Balkans, the case of Macedonia". It is envisaged that the study comes out in an edited volume in spring 2012.
