w30_eAna Stojilovska attended on 17-18 October 2011 the conference Energy. Development. Democracy. Shaping a New Energy Future for South-East Europe at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in Belgrade, Serbia. The conference is the main event of the regional initiative “Public Dialogue on the Sustainable Use of Energy in South-East Europe” for 2011, was organized by the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence (BFPE) with its partners the Democratic Leadership School, the Society for Sustainable Development Design (DOOR) and the Academy for Political Development under the auspices of the Republic of Serbia Chairmanship-in-Office of the South-East Europe Cooperation Process; and supported by the German International Cooperation (GIZ) and the International Visegrad Fund. By bringing together Members of Parliament from the regional countries, MEPs, high-ranking government officials, business and CSO representatives, energy experts, investors and donors, the conference followed the aim of information exchange and policy discussion for the purpose of tackling the energy and environmental challenges and paving the way for sustainable energy policies. At the conference was concluded that regional cooperation, inter-sector cooperation and political will are one of the basic preconditions for sustainable energy policy; that the energy and environmental challenges are to be addressed at local, national and regional level; and that the South East Europe countries’ still untapped energy efficiency and renewable sources potential has the capacity to contribute to their long term economic development and prosperity.
